I have a BFA in printmaking/painting. I have been working mostly in collage mixed media for the past 10 years. The last three years I have been concentrating on using brightly colored watercolor and acrylic inks as my under painting and white to define my negative space. Through my use of color and pattern I have conveyed a fanciful and whimsical feeling. Vessels (pots, bowls, and vases) have always been part of my work. Whether they are full of flowers or empty on a table, vessels are my symbol of self.
I try to capture the innate vitality and aura that emanates from nature through the use of pattern, texture and color.
My work's main purpose is to remind people that we are all human with every kind of need and emotion. My work's main purpose is to remind people that we are all human with every kind of need and emotion. An awareness of other cultures provides an insight into our own, and shows that the culture surrounding us is not the only valid one. My choice is to highlight, recognize and appreciate the variety of our world through my art. The predominant element of my work is the dot or circle, referring to the eternal, and used as decoration in many religions and cultures around the world I find that when working with the dots and other patterns I fall into a relaxed state, almost like Zen meditation.

Creating art is simply a form of communication. While exploring many art mediums and techniques. I have discovered that the most important element for success is how I feel about the subject. Watercolor or mixed Media is my primary medium. It provdes the opportunity to explore the elements of light, color, and design. Allowing the paint to flow freely, trying to guide it while telling the story of light, shapes, feelings is a very rewarding experience. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to return to the university after a 30 year career to study design, painting, and art history. at both UNT and TWU. I received my degree in Fine Arts in 2000.

Amy has always been passionate about the arts. Growing up around antiques, and going to art and antique markets with her geneologist mother, she developed an early eye for quality. She studied 2-d and 3-d design, printmaking and sculpture but has discovered that she loves the immediacy of painting. She paints Studio and En Plein Air oils and pastels as a focus. Being environmentally health conscious, Amy prefers to work with less toxic materials and methods. Many of her oil paintings are done without additives and she uses as close to pure pigment with very little binder in the pastels.
